Kindred peace organisations

Documents by and about peace and anti-nuclear organisations other than People for Nuclear Disarmament. Most of the organisations represented in this series were Australian. The documents include publications, and internal letters, circulars and newsletters.

New Guinea letters of John Green [radio documentary] (1984)

Featured over two broadcasts on ABC Radio 2 in 1984 was the radio documentary written by Trevor Shearston based on the letters from New Guinea of John Green to his family in Healesville in Victoria. Working titles included: The John Green Letters; Edge of the Empire : the New Guinea letters of John Green; and The John Green letters. John Green, fifth son of John and Mary Green, went to British New Guinea in 1892. In 1897 he was speared and then clubbed to death by Binandere people. During this four years in New Guinea John Green wrote more than 3200 pages of correspondence.

This series contains drafts, agreements and correspondence with ABC regarding scripts and production, and research material for the radio documentary feature.

Concertinas [novel] (1988)

This series contains drafts, notes, newspaper cuttings, research material, and correspondence. Concertinas is told from the alternating points of view of the two main characters, Chris Davage and Ian McCall. Both ex-PNG men have fond and lingering memoirs of the excitement of the expatriate experience. The novel examines the relationship between Australia, Papua New Guinea and Indonesia. This series contains drafts, notes, research material, and newspaper cuttings.

PND campaigns and public activities

Documents relating to the public activities of PND, including campaigns, public meetings, conferences and submissions to government. The series contains correspondence, minutes, circulars and notes which document the work of organising and participating in public activities, and posters, programs and petitions, which record the public content of the campaign activities.

John Riedel correspondence and papers

This series contains papers and correspondence associated with John Riedel, including cards from Gertrude Langer to him, 1983-1985. There is also a photocopy of a letter written by Gertrude Langer replying to a letter from Kathe and Walter from London, ca. 1959.

Architecture is a Community Art public lecture program

As an extension of the University of Queensland Department of Architecture's public programs in 1983 to 1985, Don Watson organised a fortnightly public lecture program called Architecture is a Community Art. The program had local, interstate and international speakers and attracted large audiences. These lecturers were conducted at the Community Arts Centre, 109 Edward Street Brisbane. This series includes correspondence, notes, biographical information for some of the presenters, financial data, posters and flyers for the lectures.
