Beatrice Davis Editorial Fellowship

Diary, correspondence, cards, Fellowship reports, ephemera, drafts, notes, newspaper cuttings relating to Rosanne Fitzgibbons receiving the first Beatrice Davis Award in 1992 and her time in New York with Norton Publishing in 1992-92. The Fellowship is named after the distinguished literary editor Beatrice Davis and provides an opportunity for a senior editor to develop knowledge and expertise in the editorial department of an international publishing house/s.

Lectures, seminars, workshops on editing

Throughout her career Rosanne Fitzgibbon attended and presented lectures, seminars and workshops on editing and publishing. She presented for the Queensland Writers' Centre, Australian Book Publishers Association, various Writers Festivals, Institute of Professional Editors, Literature Board of the Australian Council and guest presentations for courses at University of Queensland.

Freelance editing

Correspondence with authors and publishing houses regarding editing manuscripts. Contains copies (some partial) of manuscripts (some with annotations) for Gerald Windsor ('All day long the noise of battle'), Hugh Mackay ('What makes us tick?'), Marion Halligan ('Shooting the fox' and 'Murder on the apricot coast'), Brisbane City Council (Brisbane : 150 stories, 1858-2009), and Brian Castro ('Shanghai dancing').

Personal papers

Personal correspondence, notebooks, curriculum vitae and references. Includes a list of titles and photocopies of inscriptions on the copies of books belong to Fitzgibbon that were returned to the family.

Photographs

There are 1029 photographs (black and white, 6 x 6 cm) split over two parts (or albums). Norman Francis Nelson (also knowns as "NF") was the main photographer. The photographs document the travels of "NF" and JT Robinson as they journeyed from Brisbane, visiting, inspecting and evaluating the four mission stations administered by the Presbyterian Church of Queensland. There are many photographs of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The original album with its captioning was retained (in Box 1); the photograph captions were transposed exactly into the new albums, and these captions are used as the titles for each photographs; titles in square brackets are provided by Library staff.

Reports and sketch plans

This series is comprised of the reports and plans related to visits by Norman F Nelson and Joshua Thomas Robinson to the four mission stations owned by Presbyterian Church of Queensland. The typescript reports by Nelson and the sketch plans for each mission by Robinson and Nelson precede the photographs related to that part of the journey or the mission station.

Literary manuscripts.

Handwritten and typed drafts of Anne McCosker's poems and short stories, often with heavy editing and annotations, and notes and drafts for the book Lieutenant Martin's Letters. Many of the drafts of poems and stories are in notebooks. The series also contains a typed draft of a story titled 'Pacific Pot Pourri: Concerning One Klearwatgear', written during World War 2 by Winifred Martin.
