Three pages with pen handwritting have a note across the first page saying they were given to Joshua Thomas Bell at Jimbour on 2 Mar 1897 and appear to be from the envelope with the notes 'Aboriginal Vocabulary, supplied at jimbour, 2nd March 1897, by 'old Combo, Darlo, and Nipper. JTB'. Some pages are written in pencil and there is one page of typescript. There is a handwritten note inserted in this file (with the date 17 Jun 2010 printed at the bottom) that says Darlo spoke Yarrawa [sic] dialect, the dialect ... Jimbour to Dalby'; Old Combo came from Big River, New South Wales and spoke the Hamilario [?] N.S.W. dialect [possibly Gamilaroi ?]

This collection comprises written documents collected by Flint mostly as part of a long term research project in the 1960s, known as the Queensland Speech Survey, during which Flint recorded traditional Aboriginal languages. This collection also documents the Yuulngu (Gupapuyngu) language. Other parts of the collection include journal articles of languages, correspondence with field-linguists and staff from academic institutions, Indonesian material, and documentation of the English spoken by Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, Australian and regional pidgins, "migrants" and "mother-tongue" people from different ages, regions or socio-economic groups.

Five index books David Trigger used to record information during field trips to various locations within the Gulf Country region, including Mt Isa, Camooweal, Burketown, Mornington Island, Robinson River, Borroloola and Doomadgee. Includes notes of conversations, often with references to tape numbers; notes on customs and individuals, using either full or partial names; and some vocabulary lists with translations. The notebooks also contain many loose pages of extra notes, both originals and photocopies, inserted throughout.
