Ralph Verney was aide-de-camp to the Governor. The Governor, Frederick John Napier Thesiger, (Lord Chelmsford) accompanied by the Minister for Lands, Joshua Thomas Bell, left Brisbane on June 13 on a tour in Northern and North-western Queensland. Two postcards (called canvassing cards in the handwritten biographical note) for Francis Lister Hopkins announcing his move from Sydney to Toowoomba.

One card has an oval shaped black and white portrait picture of Mr. F. Lister Hopkins "Elocutionist (from the studio of Mr. Lawrence Campbell, Sydney), who will be settling in Toowoomba shortly".

The second card has an oval shaped black and white picture with the word "Comedy" directly underneath and beneath that "Photo of a new artist who will be settling in Toowoomba shortly More Anon."

The cards are accompanied by biographical notes (2 pages) by his granddaughter, Ellen Jordan.

Flyer states 'Authorised by Women's Campaign for Abortion (a coalition for Children by Choice, Pregnancy Control, ALP Women, WAAC, Working Women's Charter Group, AUS Women's Dept.)'. Year not dated.

Advertises a Children by Choice workshop 'for people who want to lobby politicians and others on the twin subjects of abortion law repeals and securing funding for the Children by Choice counselling agency'.
