Photographs

There are 1029 photographs (black and white, 6 x 6 cm) split over two parts (or albums). Norman Francis Nelson (also knowns as "NF") was the main photographer. The photographs document the travels of "NF" and JT Robinson as they journeyed from Brisbane, visiting, inspecting and evaluating the four mission stations administered by the Presbyterian Church of Queensland. There are many photographs of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The original album with its captioning was retained (in Box 1); the photograph captions were transposed exactly into the new albums, and these captions are used as the titles for each photographs; titles in square brackets are provided by Library staff.

Two letters concerning Blood red, Sister Rose. One is from typist Iris (?) Woollard in Kent, England, one leaf, undated; the other is from Simon King, of Collins Publishers, London, eight leaves, dated 20 September 1973, with editorial comments about Blood red, Sister Rose and Thomas Kenneally's pen annotations responding to the comments.

Some of the draft is written on the back of typescript (duplicated) pages from Thomas Keneally's play 'An awful rose' and some pages have been cut and pasted together. Also includes an envelope, with 'BRSR fragments' written on the front in texta, used to post the fragments from Thomas Keneally's address in England to his address in Australia.

Something in the blood [short story collection] (1979)

This series contains drafts, notes, newspaper cuttings, and correspondence. Something in the blood was published by University of Queensland Press (UQP) in 1979. Consisting of fifteen (15) short stories set in Papua New Guinea before its Independence. The short story Drowning was first published in the New Guinea Quarterly, vol. 10, no. 3, 1975-76. Some stories contain short passages in Pidgin. The stories deal with the themes of local customs, attitudes, acts of aggression, missionaries, loneliness, and racism. Includes drafts, cuttings of reviews from journals and magazine, scripts of radio plays adapted from the stories, and related correspondence.

Literary manuscripts.

Handwritten and typed drafts of Anne McCosker's poems and short stories, often with heavy editing and annotations, and notes and drafts for the book Lieutenant Martin's Letters. Many of the drafts of poems and stories are in notebooks. The series also contains a typed draft of a story titled 'Pacific Pot Pourri: Concerning One Klearwatgear', written during World War 2 by Winifred Martin.

Bennett when compiling the history of her father, Sir Robert Christison, The bound volumes include: newspaper cuttings, extracts of newspaper cuttings, pamphlets, photographs, reprints of articles, and typescripts written by or relating to Sir Robert Christison and the Dalleburra people who lived on the same land. Most of the material covers the period 1870 to 1910.
