Biographical history
Gaulai is the baptimal name of Paidan. Taught to read and write by London Missionary Society teachers who arrived at Mabuiag in late 1872 or January 1983. Gaulai was a swimmer for Pearl shell. Serviced as a lay preacher on Yam Island.

Photocopy of a notebook kept by Gaulai of Mabuiag in the Torres Strait Islands ; mainly comprises sermons and hymns. These were probably used by Gaulai when he was a lay preacher at Yam Island, Central Torres Strait, in the early 1900s. Includes handwritten genealogical information about Gaulai and his descendants, and five photographs.
Includes notes by donor (2 leaves typescript) on provenance of notebook.
