This collection comprises correspondence, meeting minutes, memos, brochures and ephemera, personal papers and publications relating to Virginia Thorley's career as a breastfeeding counsellor and consultant. Includes correspondence, drafts, page proofs and other material relating to Thorley's publications Successful breastfeeding (1974) and Feeding baby & child : a guide for Australian parents (1992), the latter of which was originally published under the title Feeding your baby and young child in Australia. Also includes material relating to Thorley's involvement with Queensland Lactation Consultants, Nursing Mothers' Association of Australia (now the Australian Breastfeeding Association), Queensland Lactation College and other organisations. A limited amount of early material relates to Thorley's research on and correspondence with Martin Haley.

Collection of correspondence from friends and fellow writers, mostly poets, editors and critics, discussing poetry, literary journals in Australia, personal news. Also copies of poems enclosed with letters or included in them. The earliest letter is dated 31 Nov. 1933. The great bulk of letters was written in the 1960s and 1970s. In all there are over 900 letters and a large number of unsorted postcard communications. The collection also includes some of Gwen Harwood's outgoing correspondence, and mss of her poems, with some biographical material and photographs. McCulloch used these interviews in his publication From Suffragists to Legislators : 100 Years of Women's Suffrage in Queensland.
