Biographical history

Jim Gasteen was born in Brisbane in 1922 and worked as a grazier and farmer in Queensland and New South Wales. He was a self-educated land specialist and provided extensive land and biological research assistance to various Queensland Government departments, local councils and other organisations. He was honoured as a Member of the Order of Australia in 1993 for his work as an advocate of balanced land use management. He died in August 2017.

Notebooks, photographs, slides, correspondence, reports and other material relating to land use and conservation, and the establishment of National Parks in Queensland.
It includes images of people (Album 4), stone axes (Album 1 and 4), middens (Album 4), Kata Tjuta and Uluru (Albums 1, 3 and 4), Jane Table Hill (Rirrmerr) (Albums 1 and 4) and burial sites (Albums 1, 3 and 4).
