Biographical history

Muriel Elsie Webb was born in 1913 at West Ham, Essex. She married Bernard Langford and the couple moved to Australia in 1955, settling in Queensland in 1957. Langford soon became involved with the work of Queensland Council for the Advance of Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders (QCAATSI), the establishment of the One People of Australia League (OPAL) in 1961, actively supported the 1967 referendum, and helped lobby for the establishment of the Aboriginal and Islander Independent Community School in 1986. She received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Queensland in 1978. She died on 9 January 2003.
