Biographical history
Donald Ross Cowen was born on 28 July 1920 at Brisbane. He worked as a Theatre/film designer, sculptor, painter, and scientific illustrator. He studied at the Central Technical College, Brisbane. Before moving overseas in 1953, he and Quentin Hole painted two palaeoart murals at the University of Queensland. He died in Tucson on 1 April 1987.

Quentin Hole was a writer and illustrator of children's books. He exhibited at the Johnstone Gallery Brisbane, and designed the set for Aristophanes' Lysistrata at the Twelfth Night Theatre, Brisbane.

Sketches and preliminary designs for mural in the old Geology Museum, Richards Building, University of Queensland. Two murals were painted for the Geology Museum by Don Cowen and Quentin Hole. The first was painted in 1951. The second, on the south wall of the museum, represents Australian Megafauna and was painted in 1952.
