Biographical history

Jenny Stewart was born in Maryborough Victoria. She grew up in Geelong and lived there most of her life. In her 30s she became involved in the women's movement. She was foundation member of the Geelong Rape Crisis Centre (Sexual Assault Service) and the Geelong Women's Refuge, as well as an organiser and participant in many women's activities, including the Reclaim the Night marches in Geelong and Melbourne. In 1985 she attended the 3rd International Women's Forum in Nairobi, and collected many posters there. Her poor health prevented her from attending the next forum in Beijing in 1990. However, her friends colllected further posters on her behalf at this event, and these also are part of the collection. Jenny moved to Brisbane in 1994, and died in 1997.
