Biographical history
Bryan Emmerson was born in Townsville on 5 September 1929. He studied medicine at the University of Queensland from 1946 to 1952. Dr Bryan Thomas Emmerson, an Emeritus Professor of Medicine, was Head of the Department of Medicine at the University of Queensland from 1985 to 1994. He was affiliated with Princess Alexandra Hospital from 1964 until his retirement in 1994. In 1997 he was made an Officer of the Order of Australia for his services to medicine and research. He was an expert on diseases of the kidney, especially gout, and on lead toxicology. He died, after a short illness, in January 2010.
