History

Bryan Thomas Emmerson was born in Townsville on 5 September 1929. He studied medicine at the University of Queensland from 1946 to 1952. From 1985 to 1994, he served as Head of the Department of Medicine at the University of Queensland, after which he was made Emeritus Professor. He was also affiliated with the Princess Alexandra Hospital from 1964 until his retirement in 1994. In 1997 he was made an Officer of the Order of Australia for his services to medicine and research. He was an expert on diseases of the kidney, especially gout, and lead toxicology. He died in January 2010 after a short illness.
