Scope and content

Contents : photocopied files of press clippings, minutes of meetings, articles and reports, media releases, submissions, ministerial statements, newsletters, correspondence and ephemera. The collection records the public debate on gay and lesbian issues ; homosexual law reform ; introduction of anti-discrimination legislation ; the growth of gay awareness ; AIDS ; the links between gay issues and political change. Also vol. 7 contains a small amount of material about the peace movement and the Australian Labor Party. Box 1 contains floppy disks with an electronic copy of the index and approximately 200 colour slides.
Bulk of records cover 1974-1994.

The papers have been arranged into 25 sections or volumes by Weir and include a comprehensive index. Within each volume, documents are filed in chronological order and allocated a number. For example, Document 303-23 means Document 303 in 23rd volume.
