The Returned Soldiers Auto Company Ltd. was established by former AIF servicemen in 1918 as the Central Auto Company with assistance from the Commonwealth Repatriation Department. The name was changed to The Returned Soldiers Auto Company Ltd. in 1922 and from 1926 the company traded as Reel Cabs.
The Brisbane Courier of 28 June 1927 noted that "the present Reel Cab depot in Bowen-street is already too small for even present requirements, and a new depot in Upper Edward street is in course of erection. This new depot will have a floor area of 18,000 square feet, and will accommodate 100 taxicabs". The building was located at 446 Upper Edward Street.
