Administrative history

H.W. Atkinson and Chas. McLay was the Brisbane-based architectural practice of Henry Wallace Atkinson and Charles McLay. McLay partnered with Atkinson in 1907, formerly colleagues at the Public Works Department in Brisbane. The firm operated until McLay’s death in 1918 when Atkinson formed a new partnership with Arnold Henry Conrad which lasted until Atkinson’s death in 1938. Atkinson, and consequently his partnership with McLay, is considered the foundation of the Australian architectural firm Conrad Gargett.
