Biographical history
Joseph Marcus Siracusa was born and raised in Chicago, United States, in 1944. He studied at the University of Denver and the University of Vienna, and received a PhD from the University of Colorado. Siracusa was a Reader in History at the University of Queensland from 1973 to 2002. He subsequently held positions as a Fellow in the Key Centre for Ethics, Law, Justice and Governance at Griffith University (2002-2005), then Deputy Dean of Global Language Studies and Professor of Human Security and International Diplomacy at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University (RMIT) (2005-2020). He is currently a professor at Curtin University. He has lectured in both Australia and the USA. Siracusa is known for his research on United States foreign policy, American politics and Australian-American security relations. He has also written a book, Sallyanne Atkinson, portrait of a Lord Mayor (1987), about the former Lord Mayor of Brisbane.
