Biographical history

Mary Montgomerie Christison was born on 8 July 1881 in London. She was the eldest daughter of Robert Christison (1837-1915), an explorer, pioneer and owner of Lammermoor in North Queensland, and his wife Mary Christison (née Godsall), a photographer. Mary married Charles Douglas Bennett in 1914. She was the compiler of Christison of Lammermoor and author of various works on the Yirandali people.

Photographer. Married Robert Christison of Lammermoor, North Queensland in 1880. She was his second wife. They had a son and two daughters, the elder of whom was Mary Montgomerie (Mimi) Bennett.

Photograph of a group photograph of three Aboriginal Australian men standing behind three seated Aboriginal Australian women. The handwritten notes accompanying a print of the negative in Series A Item 1 identifies one of the men (standing on the right) and one of the women (sitting on the right) as 'Barney (Ko-bro) and his wife Bessy ... Dalleburra Tribe'. Barney (Ko-bro) is wearing a king plate. One of the women is holding a baby in her lap. The arm and lower body of a fourth man is also in frame.
