History
American Buddy Simpson arrived at Mabuiag in 1970 with the intention of making a long-term linguistic study which would enable him to translate the New Testament into the language of West Torres Strait. In 1972, however, he turned his attention to the teaching of the Mabuiag dialect of the Torres Strait and collecting Christian hymns known at Mabuaig.
