Award-winning author and journalist Frank Moorhouse was born on 21 December 1938 at Nowra, New South Wales. In a literary career spanning over 60 years, he published ten novels and regularly contributed short stories and essays to a number of periodicals and anthologies. His early career as a journalist began at the Daily Telegraph (Sydney) and he worked for several newspapers, eventually becoming editor of the Australian Worker. He is best known for his Miles Franklin award-winning series Palais des Nations, set against the backdrop of the League of Nations, for which he spent four years in Europe researching thanks to an Australia Council Creative Fellowship. He was an advocate for the moral rights of authors and played a central role in copyright reform in Australia. He was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for service to Australian literature in 1985. Frank died in a Sydney hospital on 26 June 2022.
