History

Robert 'Bob' Victor Miles was a teacher who worked in the Queensland Department of Native Affairs between 1946 and 1958. He took up the position of Relieving Teacher in the Torres Strait Islands and was keen to learn their language and encouraged the children to use their own language in class. He resigned from teaching in 1958 and married Joan Froome. He accepted a position in the Fiji Education Department and remained there until he retired.
