The series includes manuscript and typescript drafts, notes, research material, and some related correspondence Carey's screenplays, of which Bliss and Until the end of the world were produced.

Carey maintained handwritten notebooks of ideas for his writings. Contained in this series are eleven of these notebooks. Some notebooks have general notes such as shopping lists, recipes, names and addresses, and lists that pertain to his personal life.

As well as the reviews in this series, a substantial number of reviews can be found in the form of enclosures with correspondence or included in publicity folders filed with the individual literary manuscripts. This series also has newspaper and magazine cuttings collected by Peter Carey.

This series includes photographs (some related to writings), personal papers, publishing contracts, publicity material, business records.

Copies of work, some with related correspondence, by authors writing about Carey. Also includes works sent to Carey and works where the author is unable to be identified.

The first two diaries and journals cover the period between 1940 and 1944, from the time Gordon worked at Broken Hill South Ltd. to his war service in Australia and New Guinea from March 1941. The other two diaries are an account of Gordon’s ‘Voyage to England’ in 1950, containing his first impressions of that country; and an account of a ‘Holiday in Spain and Mallorca' in 1953.
