File no. 473 City Congregational Church

The City Congregational church became the Ann Street City Uniting Church from 1948 to 1981 when it closed to join the Saint Andrew's Uniting Church. In this file there are two plans by the architectural firm Cook & Kerrison for the existing premises at Ann St from March 1956, which may have been used by Scorer and Score for File 473. There are 65 plans by Scorer and Scorer for alterations and additions for the City Congregational Church at 448 Ann Street and includes: working drawings of alterations and additions, floor plans, detail of pulpit, pews, paneling.

File no. 493 Central Methodist Church Parsonage

In 1958 Scorer and Scorer worked on the parsonage for the Central Methodist Church in Ipswich which was previously known as a Wesleyan Chapel and is now part of the Uniting Church in Australia.

The first section of The Wesley Uniting Church was built in 1858 as the Wesleyan Chapel. A two-storey parsonage was built to the north of the church in 1864 and was extended forward and very extensively altered in 1958 to convert it to offices known as Wyvern House. In 1958 a second parsonage (now a day respite care centre) was designed by architect Fred Scorer.

There are two sets of plans relating to the Central Methodist Church. The first set of 19 plans have the file no. 493, are dated 15 Aug 1957 and include: small tissue plans showing cupboards, floor plan, sliding doors, gates, doors, working drawing, and electrical installation.

The second set of 50 architectural drawings have the file no. 493, are dated Mar 1958 and are working drawings.

Frederick Scorer thesis

5 designs for the remodelling of railway station and envrions in Newcastle; 2 plans are dated Sep 1933 and 3 plans are dated Jan 1934; all plans are by F.A. Scorer. Accompanied by a thesis "On remodeling railway and environs, city of Newscastle' by F.A. Scorer dated Jan 1934, 10 pages.

Correspondence : Business, Professional and Personal

Correspondence (incoming and outgoing) related to various building works designed by James Birrell as University Architect for the University of Queensland, and by his firm James Birrell and Partners. All of the building works are for the University of Queensland in the 1960s. Correspondence was housed in large binders that have been decanted into folders This correspondence has been arranged by the job when known and can span several years. Personal and business correspondence is included in this series.

Job A41 Boatshed, University of Queensland

The Boat Club of the University of Queensland was established in 1911. Referred to as a shed in the working drawings, Birrell designed a simple building to function as an amenities building for The Boat Club. These plans were designed for submission to the Australian Universities Commission in 1965. It is located between Sir William Macgregor Drive and the Brisbane River. It is now called the Eric Freeman Boathouse. Eric Freeman, attained a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Queensland and was a valued member of the Varsity Eight (rowing) from 1921 to 1924. This file includes:

Student Union Precinct, University of Queensland

There are two architectural drawings, ink on paper, with the title The Union which may form part of the pilot plans for an extension to The Union Building which Birrell designed in 1962. There are 14 drawings for the Master Planning Report upon the Student Union Precinct University of Queensland, which was produced by Birrell and assistant architect Richard Stringer. This report was submitted to the Buildings and Grounds Committee in March 1966. 12 of these 14 drawings have the University of Queensland title block with J.P. Birrell as University Architect. Included with these drawings, which form part of the master plan for the precinct, are several designs for a Union Theatre. There are two pencil drawings related to the Union Theatre, without title, date, or creators. All plans are undated.
