It seems possible that Malouf and his editor were working alongside each other on these versions.

A Foot in the Stream is part of 12 Edmonstone Street, a collection of autobiographical essays published by Chatto and Windus in 1985. This draft is an early typescript draft, with extensive handwritten emendations in blue ink, unnumbered pages, undated.
