Riverland Residence, Maryland Avenue, Carrara, Gold Coast

This file comprises two sets of plans for the residence at [2] Mayland Avenue, Carrara, Gold Coast. The residence was originally for clients Mr. and Mrs K Breen. Project no. 8111.89. The architects, from the title block were the Davis Heather Group. The brief: Design, documents for construction; formal facade to the street, informal to the river, classical interior. All internal rooms are accessed from a semicircular atrium / courtyard, which opens to the rear garden, tennis court and jetty through large sliding doors. There are 28 working drawings, four preliminary sketch plans and five design development drawings. All are dated 1981.

Michael Edgley bought the house from the Breens and there are three sketches for an extension to the house, dated 1985. The house was sold to an art union and bought by a reired developer.

Won a design award 1986.

Nine pencil or ink line drawings on tracing paper. From the Title Block: The Heather Thiedeke Group, architects and planners. Client: Catholic Parish, Surfers Paradise. Brief: Master plan, design and documentation. The environmentally sensitive school master plan (not common on the Gold Coast at the time) received a civic design and architectural awards for the sustainable qualities. Almost every tree on the site was preserved. Includes: schematic designs and working drawings for Stage 4 and Stage 5; 1982 to 1985.

Three ink line drawings on tracing paper. No Title Block, undated. Brief: Master plan for destination resort plus hotel, units, Tavern design. The tavern was to replace a demolished historic building and reinstate the original architectural form.

Residence, Mudgeeraba, Gold Coast

Two ink line and coloured pen drawings on paper dated, 10 Aug 1992; and 4 ink line drawings on tracing paper. No Title Block. Client: Residence for Mr. F. Remmele, Lot 8 Little Nerang Road Mudgeeraba, a South Australian 'Black Friday' bushfire survivor. Brief: Design for a single person. To be constructed as fireproof as possible. Thiedeke's research indicated an all Hebel structure would suit the client's brief. Hebel is precast aerated concrete produced in panels and blocks.

From the Title Block: The Heather Thiedeke Group, architects and planners. Clients: Michael Edgely; Terry Page; Fultonborough Pty Ltd. . Brief: A beach house capable of entertaining visiting international cultural groups, especially the Moscow Circus and Russian Ballet. The inspiration for the design was primarily the sand castle. A sculptured form reflecting the contours of the beach landscape. The brief required the maximum utilisation of available site area, hence the 'box' configuration. It had a variety of owners and international celebrity guests in its 27-year lifespan. It was demolished in the last 2010s. Various Project numbers: 811-161, 811-224, 811-225. Residence, San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico

Two architectural drawings (ink line drawings on paper). Client: New York film producer, Tibetan art collector. Brief: House that fuses cultures. The architecture of neighbouring regional towns often have Asian aesthetics. This experimental design, given a Japanese form, emerged as pure Mexican. Mexican pyramids are the base for temples and there are two 'temples': 1. living areas and 2. master bed, built on a stone pyramidal base, housing 2nd and 3rd bedrooms. The living room 'temple' structure was constructed from 80-year-old telephone poles.
