Rakeevan

Historical information about the house called 'Rakeevan', situated in Graceville, Brisbane. The house was originally built for Charles Hardie Buzzacott in 1888 and was called 'Verney'. John Ferguson bought the house in 1895 as a residence for his daughter Mary Ann Ferdinando Ferguson and her husband Alfred Henry Chambers, who named it 'Rakeevan'. When they moved, John Ferguson presented the house to his second daughter, Catherine Jane Ferguson and her husband Joshua Thomas Bell. The house, after more changes of ownership and usage is now an aged care facility with the original name of 'Verney' and is heritage listed.

Moffatt family

Photocopy of correct typescript ‘Moffatt Memories’ compiled by Ruth V Leslie and read on the 11 Oct 1962 at Newstead House, Brisbane. Her granfather was Samuel Moffatt who lived at Cumkillenbah Homestead on the Darling Downs. There are some brief notes on the Aboriginal Australians who lived there. Family history for Thomas de Lacy Moffatt from the Darling Downs Pioneer Index; Thomas de lacy Moffatt married Mary Isabella MacDonald (nee Bell), widowed daughter of Thomas and Sarah Bell. Photocopies of death notices for Mary Isabella Moffatt (nee Bell) (1826-1866). Indenture dated 6 Oct 1893 re transfer of estate which included Thomas de Lacy Moffatt. Photocopy of marriage certificate of Thomas De Lacy Moffatt and Mary Isabella MacDonald (nee Bell), 17 Apr 1850 and copy of particulars recorded in register of NSW. Photocopied pages 2-4 of Digger – Queensland Pioneers Index 1829-1889.
