The letters were in possession of Tardent family members whose ancestors settled in Queensland. Some letters are original and on vellum with transcripts attached, others are photocopies.

During the demonstration, a number of men were injured by police batons including Communist Parliamentarian Fred Paterson and Railways Union member John Grayson who were taken to hospital suffering from concussion.
