Administrative history

The Act Confrontation Movement (ACM) was formed around 1971, in response to Queensland government legislation: The Aborigines Act 1971 and the Torres Strait Islanders Act 1971. This legislation gave the Queensland government the powers such as where Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples could live, how long they could live there, how much they could eat, where they could travel, and what they could wear. The Act Confrontation Movement was able to make headway on the reserves during 1973 and 1974. The Brisbane Three, Denis Walker, Lionel Fogarty (Lionel Lacey) and Juan Jose (John) Garcia, were involved in the Act Confrontation Movement and when the charges against them were dropped in 1975, it is likely the ACM folded.
