Biographical history

Margaret Grace Kemp-Pennefather was born on 3 June 1927 to Constance Mabel (nee Keys) and Lionel Hugh Kemp-Pennefather. She grew up in Toowong, trained as a nurse, married Arthur Thorsborne in 1963. Margaret and Arthur Thorsborne were inspired by Kathleen McArthur and David Fleay and became active members of the Wildlife Preservation Society of Queensland. Initially living in the Gold Coast area, in 1972 they moved to Cardwell, in North Queensland, to be close to Hinchinbrook Island. She died on 16 October 2018.

Newspaper cuttings, letters, handpainted envelopes, map, and notes by or related to the work of Margaret Thorsborne. The handpainted envelopes are all addressed to Kathleen McArthur with captions, some with letters.

Folder 1: Includes five handpainted envelopes; printed map of Rockingham Bay, Qld. with handwritten annotations; W.P.S.Q. News No. 125 March 1992 covering the launch of the Thorsborne Trust; newspaper cuttings concerning the proposed development at Kennedy Bay; notes on the Nutmeg Pigeon population on Hinchinbrook Island and a three page photocopy of a chapter from the 1988 publication "Hinchinbrook Island" written by Arthur and Margaret Thorsborne.
