History

Salvatore (Ted) D'Urso was born in Sicily, Italy, on 26 May 1928. He came to Australia in 1931 and completed a Master of Arts at the University of Queensland in 1954. He was appointed Senior Lecturer in the Department of Education, University of Queensland, in 1970, after having spent five years lecturing in Education at the University of New England in Armidale. He retired in 1993. He was active in the UQ Radical Club in the 1940s, a founder of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament in Australia in the early 1960s, and a supporter for the rights of Queensland school students in the 1970s. He died on 16 June 2022.
