The Parish for which this Church and Monastery was built was originally called Belmont in 1952. The parish name was changed to Carina in 1973 when the previous parish of Carina was changed to Mount Gravatt East. The first church was named Our Lady of Graces and Blessed Martin de Porres. The new Church designed by Ian Ferrier was opened in 1973 and known as Our Lady of Graces.
