Richard Martin - Black artist

The cover letter which accompanies the two page leaflet is signed by L. G. McBride, who was part of the Committee for the Release of Richard Martin and president of the Queensland Council for the Advancement of Aborigines & Torres Islanders. It is dated 4 September 1973. The leaflet gives an account of the life of Richard Martin. There are two copies of the leaflet. One copy says: "published by Amnesty International, Queensland Section and the Queensland Council for the Advancement of Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders." The second copy of the leaflet says "Authorized by E. Bertossi", August 1973.

Appeal for membership

A form letter outlining the discriminatory practices and policies underlining the Aborigines’ and Torres Strait Islanders’ Affairs Act of 1965, and how proposed changes to the Act are ineffectual amendments that fail to address these problems. The letter also makes an appeal for material support, and contains a coupon for members to submit to the Act Confrontation Movement with a monetary donation enclosed. The letter is signed by Denis Walker, and is undated but is assumed to be from 1971.

To those responsible for the welfare of the Aboriginal people on Cherbourg Reserve

A copy of a written statement addressed to ‘Those Responsible for the Welfare of the Aboriginal People of Cherbourg Reserve’, in which a resident expresses dissatisfaction with the conduct of an Aboriginal Councillor on the Cherbourg Reserve, who is reported to have assaulted another member of the Reserve with his son. The statement is accompanied by a form letter signed by Denis Walker, who states that Davidson is concerned her statement will result in discriminatory retaliation against her by the administrations of the Aboriginal and Islander Affairs Act of 1965. The statement also contains a list of fifteen individuals who have been identified as being responsible for the welfare of Aboriginal residents of the Cherbourg Reserve, consisting of politicians as well as high-ranking figures in philanthropic and advocacy organisations.
