Biographical history
Francis Stanley was born on 1 January 1839 in Edinburgh, Scotland. He studied and practiced architecture in Edinburgh. He emigrated to Australia, arriving in Brisbane in 1862. Stanley was Colonial Architect for the Queensland Government from 1873 to 1881. During his employment he continued to private commissions. Among his designs are: Brisbane General Post Office, Roma Street Railway Station, Supreme Court of Queensland, the Queensland Club, Tighnabruaich at Indooroopilly, and St Ann's Industrial School (now part of All Hallow's School). He died on @8 May 1897.
