History

A museum formerly located in Hamburg, Germany, founded by Johann Cesar VI. Godeffroy (1813-1885). It housed zoological, botanical and ethnographic collections, with many materials sourced from Australia and the South Seas. The curator was Johann Schmeltz (1839-1909), and Amalie Dietrich was among the experts employed for expeditions, scientific examination, and other work relating to the collections.
