History

Allan Fraser Wilson was born on 15 May 1921 in Adelaide, South Australia. He studied simultaneously at the University of Adelaide and the Adelaide Teachers College. In 1944, he graduated from the University of Adelaide with a Bachelor of Science in Geology with First Class Honours. Later, in 1947, he completed a Master of Science under the supervision of Sir Douglas Mawson. Following his placement at the University of Western Australia, Wilson was appointed Head of the Department of Geology and Mineralogy at the University of Queensland in 1960, where he remained until his retirement in 1986. He died on 28 May 2001 in Brisbane.
