History

Walter Carey Voller (1863-1932), the son of the Reverend James Voller and his wife Ann (nee Carryer) was born in Sydney in 1863 and came to Brisbane with his family in ca 1875. He attended Brisbane Grammar School and subsequently completed his articles in architecture with F.D.G. Stanley. He commenced practice as an architect in about 1891 and was in partnership with W.E. Graham as Voller & Graham in 1892/1893. Voller remained active as an architect until 1930 with offices in the city in Queen Street. He was a fellow of the Queensland Institute of Architects (the Queensland Chapter of the Australian Iinstitute of Architecture from 1930) and its President from 1903 to 1906. Voller was also a enthusiastic photographer and a member of the Queensland Photographic Society. He lived with his family at his residence Tuxlith on Swann Road in Taringa. He was survived by his wife Ellen (nee Harwood), his daughter Lilla, and his sons Roderic, who also became an architect, and Kenneth.
