Biographical history

Meta Frances Hurley was born in Toowoomba, Queensland, on 3 June 1917. In 1947 she married Allan Truscott. Meta Truscott was an Australian diarist and historian. She wrote a daily diary and created scrapbooks relating to her experiences as a resident of Ashgrove in Brisbane. She died on 27 November 2014.

Biographical history

Allan Truscott was born in Emmaville New South Wales on 18 June 1903. He was the eldest son of Sidney Austin Truscott, an immigrant from England, and Julia Gertrude, from Warwick, Queensland. With his family, Truscott moved to Queensland, living in Texas and Jandowae. He worked as a wireless operator for Amalgamated Wireless from 1924-1929 and served on various vessels in the Australian Mercantile Marine during that time. During World War II, he served in the Australian Infantry battalion and later as a RAAF wireless instructor. After the war, Truscott married Meta Hurley and settled in the Brisbane suburb of Ashgrove. He worked for the Queensland Housing Commission. They had three children (Stephen Austin, James Francis and Maria Therese).

Biographical history

Stephen Austin Truscott was born in Brisbane on 10 October 1953. He is the oldest son of Meta Frances and Allan Truscott. Truscott was ordained as a Marist priest in 1978. In 1987, Truscott established the Fullness of Life Centre in Perth, Western Australia. He presently serves as the centre's director. Truscott was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy from Murdoch University in 2007.

Biographical history

James Francis Truscott was born in Brisbane on 26 May 1956. He is the second, and middle, child of Meta Frances and Allan Truscott. Truscott graduated from the Duntroon Royal Military College in 1977. He served in many different regiments of the Australian Army, including the Special Air Service Regiment. Truscott was a member of the 1988 Australian Bicentennial Everest Expedition. He was awarded an Order of Australia Medal for his organisation and participation in this expedition. Truscott married Colette Paula Lawless in 1984; the couple had four children between 1986 and 1991. In 2000, Truscott left the Australian Army and and entered business as a crisis management consultant, eventually creating Truscott Crisis Leaders based in Perth, Western Australia. Truscott died suddenly on 28 April 2021, aged 64.

Maria Therese McLellan (née Truscott) was born in Brisbane on 16 June 1962. She is the first daughter, and youngest child of Meta Frances and Allan Truscott. McLellan married Michael Timothy McLellan in 1990 in Brisbane; the couple lived in Townsville. In 1994, McLellan graduated from James Cook University with a Bachelor of Community Welfare. After her husband's sudden death in 1995, McLellan moved to the United States of America and completed a masters program from the New College of California from 1997-1998. She returned to Australia in 1998 and has since perused a career in children's programming, safety and disability services.

Elizabeth Ann Truscott (née Coad) was born in Cornwall England on 25 August 1848. At 10 years of age, she came to Australia with her widowed mother and siblings, settling in Victoria. In 1864, Elizabeth married her first husband, Simon Kinsman, who passed away in 1869. The couple had one daughter, also named Elizabeth, born in approximately 1865 (and one son who passed away as an infant). In 1870, Elizabeth married John Charles Truscott and returned to England. The couple had 4 children in England before returning to Australia in 1879 and settling in Emmaville, New South Wales. Elizabeth gave birth to 7 additional children in Australia. The couple had 11 children between 1871 and 1894. Only 5 children lived longer than one year: John Henry, Charles Thomas, Sidney Austin, Percy and Ola May. Elizabeth's husband opened a general store in Emmaville, which her three oldest sons would eventually take over. She passed away in Emmaville on 15 October 1935.

Julia Gertrude Truscott (née Musgrave) was born in Warwick, Queensland, on 20 May 1880. She married English immigrant Sidney Austin Truscott in Emmaville, New South Wales, on 6 July 1902. The couple had five children between 1903 and 1920. They owned and operated various general stores between Emmaville and Sydney in New South Wales, and Texas and Jandowae in Queensland, before settling in Brisbane. Truscott passed away on 24 August 1972 at 93 years of age.

Sidney Austin Truscott was born in Cornwall, England on 27 January 1875. He moved to Emmaville, New South Wales, with his family when he was a young child. His father, John Charles Truscott, opened a general store in Emmaville. Sidney and his older two brothers, John Henry (Jim) and Charles Thomas (Tom) took over the store and renamed it 'Truscott Bros'. In 1902, Truscott married Julia Gertrude Musgrave, the daughter of a competing bakery owner in Emmaville. The couple had five children between 1903 and 1920. On the eve of World War I, the Truscott brothers sold their general store. Truscott and his family owned and operated various general stores between Emmaville and Sydney in New South Wales, and Texas and Jandowae in Queensland, before settling in Brisbane. Truscott played in 'Truscott's Old Time Jazz and Novelty Orchestra'. He passed away in Brisbane on 1 October 1962.

Cyril Francis Joseph (Bill) Truscott was born in Emmaville, New South Wales on 29 January 1920. He is the youngest child of Sidney Austin Truscott, an immigrant from England and Julia Gertrude, from Warwick Queensland. With his family, Truscott moved to Queensland, living in Texas and Jandowae. In 1940, during World War II, Truscott left Jondowae for Brisbane after enrolling the Royal Australian Air Force. In 1942, Truscott was posted to various positions in the United Kingdom. In the early hours of 3 July 1943, Truscott was killed in action over the German city of Cologne while serving as a flight sergeant in Number 460 Squadron. Truscott was presumed missing for several months before his death was confirmed.

He was the second son and fourth child of Sidney Austin Truscott, an immigrant from England and Julia Gertrude, from Warwick Queensland. With his family, Truscott moved to Queensland, living in Texas and Jandowae. He married Margaret Claire McNamara in 1941 in Toowoomba Queensland. The couple had two children between 1954 and 1955. Truscott passed away on 11 October 2004 in Toowoomba.

She is the second daughter, and third child of Sidney Austin Truscott, an immigrant from England and Julia Gertrude, from Warwick Queensland. With her family, Ryan moved to Queensland, living in Texas and Jandowae. In 1940, she married John Edward Ryan in Brisbane. The couple had three children between 1941 and 1948. Ryan passed away in September 1989 and is buried with her husband in the Nudgee cemetery.

Nancy Stitt (née) Truscott was born in Sydney, New South Wales on 29 March 1918. She is the third child and only daughter of Charles Thomas (Tom) Truscott, an English immigrant, and Mary Alice Forster, from Emmaville, New South Wales. On 1 May 1943, she married her husband, Beale Mascot Stitt. The couple had three children together between 1945 and 1949. Stitt passed away in Sydney on 19 February 1977.
