Biographical history

Russell James Ogilvie Hall was born in 1947. He started studying architecture at the University of Queensland and completed his training in 1974 with the Queensland Institute of Technology. He briefly worked in James Birrell's Brisbane office. In 1976 he worked for the Papua New Guinea Housing Commission. Returning from Papua New Guinea in 1979, Russell practised architecture on the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane. He established the practice, Russell Hall Architects.

Scope and content

This collection has been arranged into three series and is comprised primarily of architectural drawings from the practice of Russell Hall Architects. There are 1709 drawings, 31 photocopied drawings, 1 cover sheet, 1 printed image, and 18 artistic sketches. Some of the more well known designs include: Varitomos Buildings in West End; the heritage listed Carpenter-Hall house in Wilston; Camp Island Lodge; the windmills in Toowoomba; Rialto Theatre Redevelopment; and Hall House, Mons. There are a few project records which list job numbers and clients. The final series in the collection has cartoons.
