In 1980 Margriet Bonnin completed her PhD thesis A study of Australian descriptive and travel writing, 1929-1945 at the University of Queensland. In 1978, she had been appointed Director of Griffith University's Queensland Film and Drama Centre, which would later become Griffith Artworks.
