The majority of the collection consists of photocopies of 19th century newspaper articles and other publications that relate to a particular society or person. Some correspondence, notes and drafts of material written as part of the author's PhD dissertation 'Civilising the city : literary societies and clubs in Brisbane during the 1880s and 1890s' (Griffith University, 2005) are included throughout.
