The Department of Parasitology was established at The University of Queensland in 1960. In 1998 it merged with the Department of Microbiology, and in 2001 a further merger with Chemistry and Biochemistry created the School of Molecular & Microbial Sciences, later renamed the School of Chemistry & Molecular Biosciences.
