Biographical history

Hollis William Peter. Born in China on 14 February 1915 to American parents, William Wesley Peter, a medical missionary, and Eleanor Whipple. Educated in China, the United States and Germany. Held a doctorate in economics with a minor in social psychology. Married Salli W. Crane (1917-2009) on 3 April 1939 in El Paso, Texas. Was the foundation professor of the Department of Management at the University of Queensland from 1972 until his retirement in 1980, also fulfilling the position of Head of Department for some of this period. He was a researcher in the field of organisational behavioural studies. At a Senate meeting in 2001, Senate resolved that the title of Professor Emeritus be conferred on Professor Peter. He died in Queensland in 2005.
