Biographical history
James Macdonald was born in Herberton, North Queensland on 8 November 1894. He was educated at Brisbane Grammar School and became a bank clerk for the Commonwealth Banking Company of Sydney prior to the First World War. He enlisted in the Royal Australian Artillery on 1 May 1915 and rose to the rank of Captain. He was killed in action on 31 July 1917 at the Third Battle of Ypres. He is buried at Dickiebusch New Military Cemetery in Belgium.
