Biographical history

Phyllis May Danaher, born on 27 July 1908 at Bulimba, Brisbane, was a ballet teacher in Brisbane. Her pupils included Garth Welch and Lucette Aldous. Founding president of the Queensland branch of the Australasian Society of Operatic Dancing (later the Queensland Ballet Society); stage director; appointed MBE in 1969 for services to dance; made a fellow of the Royal Academy of Dance; her legacy is the Phyllis Danaher memorial scholarship. She died on 31 May 1991 at Clayfield, Brisbane.
