Biographical history

Percy Aldridge Grainger, pianist and composer; was born on 8 July 1882 at Brighton, Melbourne. He made his concert debut at the age of 10; in 1895 traveled to Frankfurt-am-Main for further musical education; 1905 studied with Busoni in Berlin; toured extensively in England, Europe and Scandinavia, visiting Australia in 1903, 1908, 1925; Strong interest in English folk-songs; Became friend and leading exponent of Greig and his music; Migrated to USA in 1914; Became American citizen in 1918; Married in 1928. He died on 20 February 1961.
