Biographical history
Professor Roger D Scott (1939 - ) was a Rhodes Scholar from 1962 to 1965 who began his distinguished career in 1965 lecturing at the University of Sydney. He later lectured at Queen's University of Belfast, and the Canberra CAE (Principal Lecturer in Politics in the School of Administrative Studies). From 1977 to 1987 he was the J.D. Story Professor of Public Administration, at the University of Queensland and President of the University’s Academic Board, 1986 to 1987. From 1987 until 1990 he was the Principal of the Canberra CAE, and Foundation Vice-Chancellor of the University of Canberra. From 1990 to 1994 he was the Director-General of Education, State Government of Queensland, the first to be appointed outside of the department. In 1994 he was a Visiting Professor in the Graduate School of Management at Griffith University. That same year until 2000 he was Dean of Arts, at the Queensland University of Technology and then Professor of Public Management, Faculty of Business, at QUT from 2000 to 2002. He is currently an Emeritus Professor in the School of Political Science and International Studies, University of Queensland.

John Ralph was born in Broken Hill in 1932. He began work as an accountant for CRA, eventually becoming CEO in the 1980s. When CRA became part of the Rio Tinto group in the mid 1990s he became CEO of that company. He was a board member of Foster’s, Pacific Dunlop, BHP, Telstra, CBA and Pioneer Australia in addition to a number of not-for-profits boards. In 1997 Ralph was national president of the AICD until he was called by the Howard Government to try and reform the Australian business taxation In 1999, the Australian Government received and partially adopted the Ralph Report, which recommended sweeping changes to the basis of business taxation, including the international taxation regime.

Papers relating to management education and higher education policy in Australia. This collection includes information on the Ralph Inquiry into Management Education, which published its results in 1982. It also includes papers relating to the merger talks between Canberra CAE and the ANU, and the formation of the University of Canberra as well as to education in Queensland. These papers have been collated by Emeritus Professor Roger D Scott of the School of Political Science and International Studies, University of Queensland.
