Biographical history

Professor Sydney Prentice joined the Electrical Engineering Department of the University of Queensland in 1949 and was appointed inaugural Professor of Electrical Engineering in 1950, a position he held until his retirement in 1974. THe guided the development of a high voltage laboratory, a lightning observatory and a computer centre that now bears his name. During his career he also served as Dean of Engineering. Following many years administering the Computer Centre and the Department, he was conferred Emeritus Professor in 1974 and, in 1978, was awarded the Order of Australia for distinguished service in the field of electrical engineering.
