Biographical history
Mary Alexis Macmillan was born on 9 October 1896. She was engaged to John Denis Fryer. She was a teacher of English and History and Senior mistress of the Brisbane Girls' Grammar School. She died on 27 July 1969. A memorial fund was established in her honour in 1970; the Mary Alexis Macmillan Memorial Fund. Interest from the Fund was used to purchase books for the Fryer Library, named in honour of her fiance, John Denis Fryer.
