Biographical history
Vibert McKirdy Brown was born in Natal, South Africa in 1887 and died in 1957. He was living in North Queensland by 1916 where he enlisted and served in the army during World War I. From 1925 Brown advertised himself as an architect. His style was art deco and simplified classical ornamentation. He was an architect in Atherton from 1922 to 1937, in Atherton and Cairns from 1937 to 1939, and in Cairns from 1940 until his retirement in the late 1940s. Two of his buildings have been heritage listed.

Vibert McKirdy Brown worked as an architect in North Queensland in the first half of the 20th century. He drew plans for churches, schools, presbyteries, residential houses, hotels, stores, the Atherton hospital and silos for the Atherton Tablelands Maize Board. Most of the buildings were constructed. Some have since been demolished. Two have been heritage listed: the 1930s extension to the Bolands Centre in Cairns and Exchange Hotel in Mossman.
