Biographical history

Harold Dickinson, born in 1909, blinded at the age of four years, attended The Brisbane Institution for the Instruction of the Blind, Deaf & Dumb (Dutton Park) from 1915 to 1924. He succeeded in gaining a Diploma of Licentiate of Trinity College, London, for the violin. He married Kathleen Mercy Griffin (1919-2003). Mercy and Harold established the Queensland Training and Placement Centre for the Blind. Harold won prizes for his literary work, and was awarded the M.B.E. in 1967 in recognition of his achievements and for his pioneering work in the use of machinery by blind people in industry. He died on 22 October 1983.
